Yesterday, I took myself to the shops! You can read about that adventure here, but today I thought I’d fill you in on my purchases. As I’ve mentioned previously, I was delighted when I found out that Bangkok had a number of Sephora stores.
I discovered Sephora 10 years ago in Paris on a Uni trip to Premiere Vision (needless to say we spent more time in Sephora than at the exhibition). Sephora is a Mecca for beauty fiends, it houses high end, mid and own brand products, from skincare and beauty to haircare and men’s and is a wonderful place to spend an hour swatching and testing!
Eyeko Black Magic Mascara
A favourite of Alexa Chung, I have heard great things about this mascara from beauty bloggers but as it’s not readily available in the UK I have stuck to my old favourite Maybelline The Falsies, which I don’t think I can get here. Anyway, my lovely wedding day make-up artist Rachel used an Eyeko mascara on me that day and my lashes looked long and luscious. I didn’t know whether it was the Black Magic specifically but this was the one that appealed to me the most yesterday, drama and curl are my thing. It’s available on the Selfridges website here.
Sephora Rouge Shine Lipstick
I was looking for a lightweight pinky day lipstick and this one looked ideal. In colour no. 13 Forever Yours, this is a subtle, slightly sheer, pinky nude. The consistency is lovely and feels nourishing on the lips. This is my first Sephora lipstick but they could be a regular purchase!
Sephora Nano Lip liner
I have really begun to appreciate a good lip liner, I am a massive fan of the Mac Pro lip liners as these seriously have incredible staying power and the colours are beautiful, again another wedding day product! I chose the colour 16 Pure Pinky to go with the Forever Yours lipstick. It’s a nice consistency, not draggy on the lips and good pigmentation. I’m going to wear this properly out tonight so will let you know exactly how it wears!
I also grabbed some nail files and cuticle sticks…if I’m going to keep doing my own nails I needed some tools!
Next up was Mac, which is conveniently opposite Sephora in Siam Central, too convenient maybe! I have a list on my phone of products I hear or see mentioned that I think I might like. It’s an ever evolving list and usually has quite a bit of Mac on it. The Macs here are very different to the chaotic stands we see in the UK, they are quiet and civilised! Although this may have something to do with the inflated prices here…on average products are about £2 more, on some things up to £6. After chatting to the assistant I quickly ruled out a number of products on my list as they just weren’t me, one being the Half n Half lipstick which has been raved about as something of a Kendall Jenner look creator, it was way too 90’s brown for me. So instead, this is what I picked up…
This brush is legendary, it’s a soft blending brush that can make even the most amateurish eye makeup look professional. I own one but have been coveting a second for a while. This is my absolute favourite brush for creating a smokey eye.
Pro Longwear Paint Pot
In the colour Painterly, another wedding day product I needed to make mine, this paint pot is flesh coloured and creates an incredible base for other eyeshadows or simply by itself. These pots come in a wide range of colours so there’s bound to be something there to float your boat.
In Please Me, a gorgeous rich pinky nude. I love the staying power of the MAC matte lipsticks, they last for hours and don’t get cakey. Now, I appreciate this looks very similar to the Sephora lipstick I also purchased (thank you for pointing this out husband) but the formulas are completely different. Please Me is matte and highly pigmented and for me not a day lipstick, where as the sheer, light formula of the Sephora makes this an ideal lippy for daytime.
We’re heading to a sky bar tonight for some drinks as the sun sets so I intend to test out as many of my new products as I can fit on my face! I’ll let you know how I get on and maybe even take a picture or two!
Happy Friday everyone!
