Sometimes, despite being surrounded by the most incredible, aromatic, tasty food, you just want some meat. Proper meat. Last night for a friends birthday we went to Roast, a restaurant in Thong Lor that a few people have raved about for brunch but no one had tried for dinner.
Located on Soi 13 in the popular Thong Lor district, Roast is a trendy, modern restaurant, describing itself as ‘serving quality comfort food’, something we were all looking forward to! It is also famed for its coffee which is all ground in-house. The menu of this place deserves a special mention; designed as a newspaper, it’s the most interesting menu I have come across in a while in terms of concept and design. Top marks for ingenuity.
The menu is mouthwateringly appetising! It has everything from clam chowder and mussels to buffalo wings and Osso Bucco, and some really good sides including garlic mash and grilled asparagus. The brunch menu looked amazing too, with eggs Florentine, pulled pork burgers and salmon fish finger sandwiches…we will be returning!
200g striploin, crusted with peppercorns, seared and served with herbed Mascarpone butter & fries
A full rack of ribs served with grilled chilli butter corn and a side of roast potatoes
A few of the steaks were a little over done to how they were ordered, but when you’re serving a big party it can always be tricky, never the less, they looked seriously good and certainly satisfied the cravings for meat! Our ribs were delicious, they fell off the bone and were incredibly tasty. The corn was yum too with a sprinkling of parmesan on top. The roasties were nice but not quite crispy enough for my liking. Having tried someones mash, I think I’d opt for that next time…I do miss my mash!
We had been warned by people who have visited Roast before that their desserts are the best and the menu did not disappoint. There was so much to choose from including Apple strudel with salted caramel ice-cream, stuffed French toast and chocolate soufflé. We have tended not to eat dessert out here very much so it would have been rude not to try something! We shared a ‘Half Baked’…
Warm cookie dough baked and topped with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate sauce (180THB)
This dessert was absolutely out of this world; honestly one of the best desserts I have had in years, I will go back for this alone! All of the desserts that friends had around the table looked yummy. I was eyeing up Tom’s ‘Monkey Business’ which I will have to try next time!
Banana pudding, mixed nuts, vanilla cream, butter cookie and chocolate caramel sauce (180THB)
Roast is a really great place to eat. The food was great (the dessert exceptional) and the atmosphere and ambiance was lovely. The next time I am hankering after a bit of good western food, Roast will definitely be my first port of call, oh and I will go and investigate brunch soon!
