On Monday as Songkran dawned we set off for Koh Chang just an hours flight south east of Bangkok. We flew out of Suvarnabhumi airport with Bangkok Airways, our round trip costing around £50 each. It is possible to go via bus or train but we chose the quickest travel option with our flight actually only taking 40 minutes! We actually booked our transfer in Suvarnabhumi before going through security, which included mini bus transfer from Trat, the ferry and drop off at our hotel door and the return journey for 1200 baht each (£24).
The flight was really smooth and efficient despite the abundance of water pistols travelling!
Trat airport is the smallest, cutest airport I have ever seen, it is completely open, thatched and surrounded by flowers! We were welcomed through with flower lei and a sprinkling of water to cleanse our souls for the new year. After meeting our driver who was holding our names on a card we hopped into our air conditioned mini van and sped off towards the ferry. After a half hour wait on the dock side, which to be honest wasn’t a chore as there’s always something interesting going on, our van was directed onto the ferry. We went upstairs to the ‘passenger deck’ for the short twenty minute crossing.
We arrived onto Koh Chang, a lush mountainous jungle island, in our mini van and were taken to our hotel, the Chai Chet Resort. It was a really easy transfer and if you’re planning on going to Chang I would recommend booking your transfers at the airport. Next onto relaxing and enjoying ourselves in paradise!
