So life has been a bit hectic lately which has significantly hindered my blogging – no excuse I know! Apologies for the lack of posts and updates on life here in Bangkok. Here is a quick rundown of what’s been going on:
New condo ~ Yay – we found a flat which we move into on the 20th of June so I’m really looking forward to that. It is further into town and straight onto the BTS which was really important for us. I wasn’t particularly helpful in the flat hunt after a rather messy netball night out before…but that’s all we’ll say on that! It’s on the 14th floor with the most incredible views over the city! Karaoke ~ The boys went away to Phuket for their annual boys weekend so the girls had a Karaoke night at Tuba in Ekamai. The cocktails were huge and the air was filled with the sounds of 90’s boybands! It was a really great night, any excuse to get glammed up! A job ~ I was offered a job at school for the remainder of this term which I am really enjoying although the ridiculously early starts are something I’m not going to get used to quickly after 4 months of relaxation! The job also meant I had to go to the hospital for a medical which was a very positive experience I must say.
More Karaoke ~ We went to a bar called The Iron Fairies in Thong Lo on a Monday night a few weeks ago…the Tuesday was a public holiday! It was basically an open mic night with a live band. We went to support two friends who have amazing voices and love to sing and who were amazing! The talent was incredible and we had a brilliant evening! Friday ~ So on my last Friday as a lady of leisure I went into town to buy some ‘school appropriate’ attire and treat myself to a solo sushi lunch! I picked up two pairs of trousers in Zara, (there was so much choice but I couldn’t resist the flowery ones) and randomly the top in Tesco Lotus when I was doing the food shop! Holiday ~ We have been trying to plan our summer holiday…trying being the operative word. I think because we have so many amazing options of where to go we are completely spoiled for choice, therefore we can’t make a decision. I think we’re going to see what we fancy doing in a few weeks time and book something last minute…we were fancying Japan but we’ve left it too late to get things booked. At the moment we’re contemplating Bali, Lombok or the Perhentian Islands of Malaysia…. TV ~ Nashville started. This was a key date in my diary, something that me and my friends had been looking forward to for flippin’ ages. I remember back before I even left England, Han, Tom and I had a panicked conversation as to whether I’d actually be able to get it over here (#firstworldproblems). Thankfully we have ExPat TV so when the first episode of series 3 aired on E4 last Wednesday I was able to watch it first thing on Thursday! Country music, rugged men and scandal, what more could a girl want!
Eating ~ We went to the new Roast in the EmQuartier in Phrom Phong last week, Date Night Tuesday! We had the biggest, messiest burgers ever, they had cheese, bacon, onions and mushrooms on. It wasn’t romantic but they were absolutely delicious! (In the spirit of honesty, over the past few weeks, I’ve actually eaten there on 2 other occasions….)
Corned beef hash with poached eggs
Saturday ~ This doesn’t sound like me but last Saturday evening was spent in a bar watching football…yep, you read that right. My dad was proud though as we watched Leicester City manage to hold a nil nil draw and stay up (everyone told me this was a big deal). Being poorly ~ Since last week I’ve been nursing a horrid cold which I’m struggling to shift despite the multitude of pills from the pharmacy – Dave gave it to me so I’m blaming him! It’s hard being ill in a strange country, normally I’d know exactly what to take to make me feel better but here it’s not so easy!
Skin ~ I bought a whole range of sample moisturisers with me to try and had finally ran out of night moisturiser so went back to an old favourite, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. I love this stuff. Its rich enough to really make your skin feel nourished without it feeling greasy or like its going to break out. In the morning I always think my skin looks refreshed and glowy. It’s not specifically a night cream, if you had dry skin it would probably be an ideal day cream but for my oily skin its just perfect as I sleep. This is a real good ‘un. Reading ~ I am addicted to my kindle. I can’t put it down. I am reading so many books (mainly beachy trash to be honest). I was shattered a few weeks ago because I didn’t stop reading until 3am…damn you percentage thingy!
Hair ~ I finally went to the hairdresser! A friend of mine told me about Ten Ten in Phrom Phong (where I have been for nails before) and hers looked gorgeous so I went and it was great. I just had a couple of inches off so nothing drastic but the lady did a great job, the products they used were lovely and the blow dry was fab. I will definitely be going back. It also cost a very reasonable £24. I also discovered in the Gourmet Supermarket in EmQuartier they stock Kerestase, Paul Mitchell and Loreal Professional hair products. I know where I’ll be going with my first pay check! Weather ~ The rainy season is starting to arrive; we haven’t had rain everyday or anything but the few downpours we have had have been seriously epic and most evenings now we’re treated to some pretty impressive lightening shows! So that’s what my past few weeks have entailed. It’s certainly been an interesting ride! Right now I’m going to go back to feeling sorry for my poorly self, eating Rich Tea biscuits and watching re-runs of Big Bang Theory on E4 but I promise I won’t leave it so long next time! X
