The Travel Bit

Last week we headed off with our visitors for some R&R on Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. We used the Nok Air Fly ‘n’ Ferry service as in terms of ease and speed it’s pretty good for getting to the islands, plus price wise it’s really reasonable. Our 2 journeys cost just over £75 per person.

Our flight out of Don Mueng was at 6.10am (eugggghhhh) arriving on Koh Phangan at 11.40am and the ticket included the bus transfer from Surat Thani to the pier and then your ferry to the island. We were slightly delayed and ended up getting onto Phangan about 12.30 which wasn’t the end of the world.

We had booked the Nok Fly ‘n’ Ferry service to take us back to Bangkok from Koh Tao via Chumphon Airport so the only bit of our travel that wasn’t pre-booked was the ferry from Koh Phangan to Koh Tao which we booked with our resort. Most resorts will be able to organise this for you the day before you want to travel so there’s no stress! There were 3 choices of boat with different departure times and durations of the journey, we plumped for the quickest boat which was 500 baht each. In hindsight I’m really glad we did as on the day the weather was pretty bad, not a day to be on a slow ferry!

At both ports we just jumped in a songthaew to get to our hotels, quite often you can pre-arrange this with you resort but its so cheap and easy to do it ad-hoc we didn’t bother. To give you an idea, the port to our resort on Phangan was 200 baht each, Tao was 100 baht each.

Our return journey was interesting, our flight back to Bangkok was from Chumphon airport which they opened just for us and our flight. It was the weirdest thing ever! There was a TV which the guard turned on so the boys could watch the United game and pass some time!

If you are planning on visiting the Thai Islands there are lots of cool ways to get there, but for me the ease of the Nok Fly ‘n’ Ferry make it a great choice.
