Review ~ The Aminjirah, Koh Tao

Finding a hotel on Koh Tao was a similar story to finding one on Koh Phangan…it involved too much time on Trip Advisor and resulted in frustration. In the end, we plumped for The Aminjirah, a hotel that I had seen reviewed by fellow bloggers, Sarah of Fit Travels and Krystle of Pictures & Plane Tickets. Situated around the cliffs from Sairee Beach with stunning views of the sea, it was definitely the beautiful pool that sold this resort to me!

From the resort it’s quite a strenuous walk back to the beach which we didn’t attempt as quite frankly it was too hot and in the evenings the roads aren’t particularly well lit but if you did want to head out there were plenty of Songathew taxi’s around. The resort also offers a shuttle bus at certain times of the day.

There is a great range of accommodation available at this hilly resort from more budget-friendly Green View rooms to the extra special Pool Pavilion. We took a chance and booked two ‘Mystery‘ stays, where according to the website you could end up with the basic Green View or the stay of a lifetime in the Ocean View rooms. Upon a welcoming arrival, we were given one Old School Beach View room for the duration of our stay, and one stay that had two nights in a Moon Dazzle room with the final night in an Old School Beach View room, we knew moving was a possibility as it does tell you on their website so this was no problem. The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean and let’s face it, that view is what you’re there for!

Old School Beach View Room…the best view ever

The highlight of the resort for me has to be the incredible infinity pool seemingly perched on the cliff edge. We spent hours enjoying the insane views and of course taking a picture or two – it seriously is a dream backdrop and we turned into a bunch of posers!

We ate dinner in the brand new restaurant, The Ocean Lounge, at the resort a couple of times; the menu isn’t as extensive as other hotels we’ve stayed at recently but does include Thai and western dishes and might have been down to the fact it had only just opened. The weather in the evenings highlighted some teething problems for the staff in the restaurant which they dealt with in good humour and as best as they could, even bringing our meal to our room when it was clear the rain was not going to ease up! The Ocean Lounge also has a small new infinity pool which we didn’t try but would definitely be worth a dip!

A special thank you to June and his adorable dog for doing everything to make our stay perfect, including organising a last minute trip to nearby Koh Nang Yuan. We had a fab time staying at The Aminjirah; the views, the pool and the staff were wonderful. If your looking for something a bit off the beaten track with bags of personality this could be the place for you.

Thanks for the shout out, gorgeous! 🙂 I loved that pool too, such incredible views. It seems like the resort was updated between my visit and yours. When I was there they only had a small “restaurant” next to the pool (you basically ordered at the bar), and the whole place needed a fresh coat of paint. Glad to see it’s been updated! It’s a cute little place.

    Stunning views!
I love the idea of mystery rooms – I’ve always been too scared to do mystery hotels so this seems like a cool substitute! xo

      2. They are! I’ve lived here for 9 months and visited Wat Pho (the reclining Buddha) 5 times…it never gets boring!

  5. Omg, no way. We stayed at the same resort when we went in October! Our view though was ruined by the haze. Just a gray sky and gray water. Wasn’t that pretty.

Who wouldn’t turn into a bunch of posers in a place like that. Very lovely and well written post. It’s easy for us expats who wake up and see views like this everyday, walk and swim in the Andaman sea and then slave over a hot blog to take it for granted. Actually I don’t. James
