Well, after a good month or so of using the Benefit Roller Lash mascara, as promised, my verdict is in. For me, sometimes, it can take a little time to warm up to a new mascara, but I can safely say no amount of warming is going to get me to love this product. I had read lots of positive reviews from my favourite bloggers and You Tubers so no doubt my feelings are uniquely personal (you may indeed love it) but no matter how much I tried to like this I just couldn’t.
So, Benefit claims:
It’s a roller for lashes! The eye-opening Hook ‘n’ Roll™ brush grabs, separates, lifts and curls…while the instant curve-setting formula holds for 12 hours.Curl Power!97% said it visibly lifts lashes*87% said it gives long-lasting curl*94% said eyes look more wide open**consumer panel survey on 31 women after 4 weeks
On a positive note, the actual formulation is nice for a daytime look. It’s smooth and coats the lashes nicely and does make them look long. My main issue with this mascara is the brush – it’s rigid and plastic and small. I like long, curly lashes and despite its claims, this brush just doesn’t allow me to build at the root for a more dramatic look. I do like the slight curve of the brush but didn’t feel like the bristles grabbed my lashes particularly well no matter what technique I tried! It also wasn’t at all build-able for me, meaning if I was going from a day to night look, I had to take my face off and start again. I didn’t find it held a curl for more than a few hours even with assistance from my holy grail Shu Uemura curlers. Plus by the end of a long day both here in the heat of Bangkok and the chillier UK climes, I was beginnings to take on the appearance of a baby Panda. Never a good look.
Now I appreciate the pictures I am including don’t really support my case, as my lashes look long and curly but bear in mind this is freshly applied to freshly curled lashes (I failed to do an after shot). I have long lashes already so I think my problem might just be that I’m personally not a huge fan of the spidery look which this mascara definitely gives you. For someone this might be just what they’re looking for, for me, I now know I prefer a much fuller lash look!
So for me, this will not be a repurchase; there’s nothing wrong with this product per se, it is fine does the job of a mascara but it just didn’t stand out for me, sorry Benefit I just want more oomph for my lashes. I will use the tube up during the daytime and continue the hunt for my old favourite Eyeko mascara here in Bangkok ~ please restock Sephora! In the meantime, there is a new kid on the block who goes by the name of Charlotte Tilbury with her Full Fat Lashes mascara which I picked up back in the UK…coming to Travels of a Beauty Addict soon!
