Last weekend was my birthday but it was also Chinese New Year meaning hotel prices by the beach were astronomical. Instead, we had a two-day ‘staycation’ in Bangkok, at a hotel about 5km away from where we live. We chose the W Bangkok which I have seen reviewed by a few travel bloggers and on arrival I was not disappointed, it’s promised quirkiness was evident in bucket loads!
On check-in, the lovely lady spotted from my passport that it was my birthday so gave us late check out and upgraded us from a ‘Wonderful room’ to a ‘Spectacular room’ – that’s not me being all gushy, that is actually what they’re called. And it was, spectacular that is. Particular shout outs go to the sparkly boxing gloves, the Bliss bathroom products, the tablet control centre (although I did curse when it took me five minutes to turn all the lights off the first night) and the plugs; not for their slightly phallic shape but their total worldwide usability – genius.
The majority of our two-day stay was spent at this incredible pool. Voted as one of the best in Bangkok, it’s easy to see why. The curved, wave-like backdrop creates something really different to the usual infinity pool, and the number of loungers is also commendable. We truly sampled the cocktail menu – well it was my birthday weekend – and again massive thumbs up.
When we got back to our room on Saturday, the hotel had left a card and two yummy cupcakes to celebrate my birthday – a really thoughtful touch. That night our friends arrived to stay too so we drank some fizz before heading out into Silom for some food.
One of our favourite things about the W Hotel was the ‘design your own burger’ in The Kitchen Table restaurant. I had no intention of having a burger that evening but let’s face it, who can turn down making the perfect burger! I named mine #TheBettyBurger and created it with an Angus Aberdeen beef patty cooked medium, Cos lettuce and tomato, avocado, bacon, cheddar and balsamic onion chutney on a brioche bun – oh sweet Jesus, it was epic.
You can’t have a birthday without having something new to wear! I’m totally a ‘jeans and top’ kinda girl so why deviate right?! I was sent this gorgeous panelled top by Zalora and was dying to wear it.
We really enjoyed our stay at the W Bangkok. The service was great, the hotel’s full of fab design details to keep it interesting, the food was top notch and the bed was so ridiculously comfy I wanted to take up permanent residence. I didn’t miss the beach at all.
106 North Sathorn Road, Silom, Bangrak, Bangkok, 10500, Thailand
paid around £300 for 2 nights, room only at the W Bangkok
*Disclaimer ~ I was sent the top free of charge but all opinions and thoughts are my own. I would never recommend or put something on my website I didn’t like, wouldn’t pay full price for or wouldn’t wear again! In fact, I’ve worn this top already this week!
