Confession: MAC Lipsticks

A friend of mine bought me a MAC lipstick for my birthday last month, in a shade that she recognised as being completely me. It made me think – maybe I do have a slight problem. My collection isn’t by any means vast (I only own eight MAC lippies…) but worryingly my husband is pretty much convinced they are all the same colour…

Of course they aren’t; each neutral pinky, browny shade is vital to my collection and has its own time and place on my face. Plus the different formulations of MAC lipsticks make them all individual and completely necessary. I suppose my real confession here is that I already have a long list of additional shades I am coveting for my growing collection that I know are on a similar colour theme…come to me Velvet Teddy*!

Viva Glam V (lustre) was my first ever MAC lipstick, closely followed by Patisserie (lustre) which coincidentally became my wedding day colour too (I took it as a good sign that the makeup artist chose my go-to everyday colour for me from her vast array of possibilities). Since then, I have added two matte shades; vibrant orange So Chaud and pink Please Me. I do like the MAC matte lipsticks, I find wearing a balm underneath stops them from being too drying.

My current favourites are Twig, Brave and Fanfare, all gorgeous everyday colours that I would imagine would suit most people. Fanfare is my first cremesheen formulation and whilst I don’t find it lasts as long as the satin formulations it is a tad more moisturising on the lips and the colour is lovely.

Actually, when seeing them swatched like this, there is more variety than I thought there might be! Maybe I shouldn’t feel too bad about my involuntary purchases every time I pass a counter…!

So, what other MAC lipsticks do I need in my life?

* In the period between writing and then editing this post, I have in fact ‘acquired’ Velvet Teddy. Oops. And I can safely say it’s worth the hype.
