If pure unadulterated relaxation and spectacular views are what you’re after then look no further than the Santhiya Resort on Koh Yao Yai. We actually visited this hotel two years ago, which you can read about here, but decided to head back with my parents for four days during October half term as part of a weeks trip to Phuket.
We flew with Bangkok Air from Bangkok to Phuket and then booked a transfer with the hotel. They own their own fleet of speed boats to ferry you to and from nearby Koh Yao Yai and I would highly recommend using this service (although the delivery boat we took on our last trip was good fun).
We booked the same rooms as last time, the Supreme Deluxe Sea View, as they were so beautiful; the teak carving is so unique and the views are just breathtaking. The jacuzzi bath on the terrace is also a huge plus for me as lets face it, what’s better than watching a spectacular sunset from the bubbly waters of an outdoor bath?
Since we last visited there had been some changes and updates; there was an additional infinity pool high up in the resort, just a short walk from our rooms, giving you the perfect place to lounge and wind away the afternoon with a happy hour cocktail. It also meant that the main pool and beach area weren’t as busy. Next to the infinity pool was a new restaurant, where the extensive breakfast is now served too.
We had the most awesome time doing nothing apart from relaxing whilst we were at the Santhiya. The resort does have a wide range of free activities (kayaking, beach volleyball, Muay Thai) that you can participate in and there certainly are things to do if you want but we, in a unanimous family decision, opted for cocktails and kindles!
